2024 PTS… This is the Moon that was a guest of the Earth for two months. Now he has left our home and embarked on an infinite journey into space. This moon is moving towards its home, which is an asteroid belt. The name of this belt is Arjun Asteroid Belt. Which exists between the earth and the sun. It was the size of a bus.

This belt is 15 million kilometers from the sun. Almost the same distance as the Earth from the Sun. Professor Carlos dela Fuente Marco of the University of Madrid said that the direction of the Arjuna asteroid belt is different. The stones in this belt are usually near-Earth objects. Some of these stones come very close to the earth. Up to a distance of approximately 45 lakh km. Its speed can be up to 3540 km/h.

This moon will pass by Earth again in January of next year. So its distance from Earth is 17.8 lakh kilometers. It is being tracked by the Goldstone Solar System radar antenna installed in the Mojave Desert in California. In addition, NASA’s Deep Space Network also continuously monitors it.

What are minimoons?

Minimoons approach Earth in two ways. The first is that an object becomes trapped in the Earth’s gravity and cannot escape for a year or two. It continues to revolve around the earth. Secondly, if the stone appears for a short period of time. It goes around half or one turn of the earth. It lasts from a few days to a few weeks.

These are those minimoons that have already traveled around the Earth

Until now, two mini stone moons have formed twice for a long time. First 2006 RH120 and 2020 CD3. Aside from this, three were stranded for short periods of time. These are: 1991 VG, 2022 NX1 and this time 2024 PTS. Scientists around the world are awaiting the arrival of this mini-moon. He is dedicated to studying his career and behavior.

It cannot be seen with a regular telescope or binoculars. To see this, a CCD or CMOS spotting telescope of at least 30 inches in diameter is required. A report on this minimoon was recently published in The Research Notes of the AAS Journal.
