- Caste equation to play important role in Rajya Sabha elections
- Elections for the Rajya Sabha seat will be held in Haryana on December 20, the BJP is sure to win the elections and around half a dozen leaders are in the queue.
- -Many stalwarts of the SC, Brahmin, Punjabi, Jat and Bishnoi communities are contenders for the Rajya Sabha seats.
Dr. Ravindra Malik, Chandigarh:
Haryana News: In Haryana, intense lobbying has been on for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat following the resignation of BJP leader Krishna Lal Panwar. Since the BJP is considered certain to win the Rajya Sabha seat after having the required number of MLAs to win the elections, in such a situation, around half a dozen party leaders, who are from different castes, are continuously expressing their claim. in the seat, directly or indirectly.
Political experts believe that caste equations are going to play an important role in Haryana regarding the Rajya Sabha seat. Currently, Sunita Duggal and Sudesh Kataria of SC category, OP Dhankhar and Captain Abhimanyu of Jat community, Mohan Lal Badoli of Brahmin community, Kuldeep Bishnoi of Bishnoi community and Sanjay Bhatia of Punjabi community are claiming to go to Rajya Sabha.
Two Dalit faces are strong contenders
BJP leader Krishna Lal Pawar, whose Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after his resignation, belongs to the reserved category and should be. There are mainly two big faces emerging from the district, including former MP and leader who lost the assembly elections this time, Sunita Duggal and Suresh Kataria. Sudesh Kataria is in the good books of Union Minister and Chief Minister Manohar Lal, so his claim is quite strong.
Due to the dispersal of Dalit votes in the Lok Sabha elections, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar had included Dalits opposite Kataria in his team and also organized Dalit Mahasammelans in all districts. Apart from him, Sunita Duggal, who comes from the reserved category, is also among the aspirants for the Rajya Sabha seat. Let us also tell you that in the last Lok Sabha elections, his candidature was canceled and handed over to Dalit leader Ashok Tanwar, who joined the BJP from the Congress.
Mohan Lal Badoli, Kuldeep Bishnoi and Sanjay Bhatia are also contenders.
Apart from Dalit leaders, big faces from three other different castes are also contenders for Rajya Sabha seats. Party state president and big Brahmin face Mohanlal Barauli’s name is also among the contenders for the Rajya Sabha seat.
He himself did not participate in the assembly elections, but he made the party win. He is recognized as a big Brahmin face of the BJP in Haryana. He also did a good job in bringing the organization and the government together in the Lok Sabha elections and the assembly elections.
Although he could not win the Lok Sabha elections, he decided to field the party in the Assembly but refused to contest the elections. Apart from him, Kuldeep Bishnoi, who has a good influence in the Bishnoi society, is also said to be a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat, but currently he seems to be sidelined and angry in the party.
The party not only denied him a candidature in the Lok Sabha elections, but after the end of DP Vats’ tenure, the party sidelined him and made Subhash Barala a Rajya Sabha member in its favor. Apart from these two, Sanjay Bhatia, a former Lok Sabha MP from the Punjabi community, who did not get a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections this time, is also among the contenders for the Rajya Sabha seat.
So far, the BJP has fitted Subhash Barala and Kiran Choudhary.
The BJP has made adjustments by sending two senior party leaders to the Rajya Sabha. BJP MP DP Varsha’s term ended this year and after the seat fell vacant, former state president Subhash Barala was appointed to the Rajya Sabha.
Similarly, in the same year, the Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after Congress leader Deependra Hooda became a Lok Sabha MP. Considering all the political equations, Kiran Choudhary, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP, was fielded by the party to the Rajya Sabha.
Now the Rajya Sabha seat for which elections will be held was vacant after the resignation of former Rajya Sabha MP Krishna Lal Pawar, but now the BJP candidate is safe. Let us tell you that among the contenders to go to Rajya Sabha are also the names of Captain Abhimanyu and OP Dhankar, who come from the Jat community, but at the moment their claim does not seem that strong.
The electoral calendar is published
The schedule of Rajya Sabha elections has been released. According to this, voting for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Haryana will be held on December 20 and then the result will be declared in the evening. The Election Commission issued its notification last Tuesday. The nomination process will begin from December 3. The last date for nomination is December 10.
Krishnalal Panwar had resigned from Rajya Sabha on October 14 after winning the assembly elections. After which the seat was declared vacant. Whoever is elected, their term will last until August 1, 2028.
At present, the BJP will surely win the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana because it has 48 of the 90 MLAs, while the main opposition party, the Congress, has only 37 MLAs. On the other hand, this time two INLD MLAs won the elections, while three independent MLAs already supported the BJP.
