Independent candidate dies of a heart attack

Voting for the assembly elections in Maharashtra has been completed. Meanwhile, police said an independent candidate from Beed suffered a heart attack on Wednesday while waiting his turn to vote at a polling station. The man was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead, his name was Balasaheb Shinde. Today 288 seats were voted to elect the new government in Maharashtra. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.

Can the vote then be postponed?

Beed’s Chhatrapati Shahu Vidyalaya, Balasaheb Shinde fell to the ground at the polling booth. He was first taken to Kaku Nana Hospital in Beed and then to Chhatrapati Shambhaji Nagar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police said the body was sent for an autopsy. Under the Representation of the People Act 1951, if a candidate dies during the election, voting in the seat concerned can be postponed under Article 52.

Beed seat has gone to Ajit Pawar faction

The Beed assembly seat was once a bastion of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Post-split, Ajit Pawar represents a faction of the NCP, which is in alliance with the BJP and Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde. Let us tell you that the main contest in Maharashtra is between the Mahayuti alliance (led by the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s army and Ajit Pawar’s NCP) and Maha Vikas Aghadi (led by the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s army and the NCP by Sharad Pawar).
