An encounter between security forces and terrorists has begun in Lolab forest area in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Local police are deployed at the front. Two terrorists are said to be trapped in the forest area.

Earlier on Tuesday, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, while two security personnel were injured. A police officer said security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on information about the presence of terrorists in Choontpathri forest area in Bandipora. He said the terrorists first fired at the security forces, after which the security forces responded. The officer said one terrorist was killed in the firing, while an Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier were injured. He said the injured were taken to the hospital and the encounter continues.

11 people injured in grenade attack in Srinagar

Recently, on Sunday, terrorists lobbed a grenade at a CRPF bunker near a busy market in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, injuring 11 people. The attack took place near the All India Radio and Doordarshan Center complex, located near the Tourist Welcome Centre, where there is tight security. The attack came a day after security forces killed a senior Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba commander in Srinagar’s Khanyar area. A senior police officer said the terrorists hurled a grenade towards the CRPF bunker near the TRC. However, the grenade missed its target and fell to the side of the road, injuring 11 people, he said. The explosion occurred near a weekly market, known as Sunday Bazaar, which is visited by thousands of people. The explosion spread panic in the area and merchants had to run from one side to the other to hide.
