In view of rising air pollution, physical education classes have been closed in primary schools in Delhi. Along with this, authorities are taking measures for the safety of students from grade 6 onwards, who will attend their classes offline. Sudha Acharya, principal of ITL Public School in Dwarka, said, “We have implemented guidelines for students attending school. There is a ban on outdoor activities. We encourage indoor activities like reading, painting, crafts and games like chess and carrom”. They’re doing it.”

Acharya issued an advisory to schools highlighting efforts to promote environmentally friendly habits such as carpooling, staying hydrated and maintaining a diet rich in antioxidants. “We have made the use of N95 masks mandatory, keep all doors and windows closed and take special care of students with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma,” he said. He said the school strictly avoids common allergens and chemical irritants, such as fragrances and strong cleaning agents, to maintain a safe indoor environment. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) imposed GRAP 3 measures as the national capital recorded its worst pollution levels. Additionally, the air quality remained in the “severe” category for two consecutive days. The city’s air quality was in the severe category with AQI 411 at 9 am on Friday.

Rajeev Hasija, principal of Indraprastha International School in Dwarka, said teachers will continue teaching on campus using Microsoft Teams smart boards equipped with the entire curriculum to facilitate online learning effectively. He said: “We will also share the recorded sessions with students who will be able to watch them again and those who miss the class for some reason will be able to watch them. Students must wear school uniform during their online classes. the same, and they are also given a 15-minute break between two classes, so that they can move and hydrate.” He said that all outdoor activities, especially for high school students, before 10 am have been suspended. He added: “We also ensure that our campus remains green and consult parents who are doctors to give healthy diet suggestions to students.
