The practice of couch casting in Bollywood is decades old. Actors or actresses are often seen making shocking revelations in this regard. Producers, directors or actors are accused of taking advantage of people under the pretext of getting them to work in films. That’s why it has a lot of notoriety.
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has given his opinion on this whole matter, according to Imtiaz who attended the IFFI event, this is not very beneficial. He said he also hears many such stories where the fear of committing for work is ingrained in people’s minds. But as far as he knows, it doesn’t help much.
It’s no use compromising
Imtiaz said: I see I have been a director in the Hindi film industry for 15-20 years. I’ve also heard a lot about Couch’s casting, or what you say about when a girl comes to work she feels scared. Let me tell you, the chances of a woman who can’t say no don’t increase. It’s not that the girl who commits will definitely get that role. There will be many that explode. If a girl can say no and respects herself, only then will any other man respect her.
Imtiaz further said: Because I and many other people also think whether we are taking this person seriously or not. Do I have respect for that person to be able to choose him? It is a mistake to think that if you commit, your chances in the film industry will increase. I have seen just the opposite. Whoever commits, also commits his career.
When Kareena was surrounded by men of light.
Apart from this, Imtiaz also spoke about the safety of women on the set. Meanwhile, he also mentioned Kareena Kapoor, gave an example and explained that she was absolutely confident on the sets of Jab We Met.
Imtiaz said: I have had a journey. I have also worked in small towns, big towns. I also did theater, then I entered cinema. Believe me, the way the Mumbai film industry behaves towards its women is very commendable. If 200 people work in a film unit, then it is very safe. Let me explain by giving an example from my film. There was a scene where Kareena is lying on the top bunk, but before the scene starts, the light man says that more lights will be needed here.
I told Kareena to come here and lie down when the work is done. Now everyone knows that Kareena is the daughter of the film industry, she is a star kid. He’s seen it all. He probably knows more about film ethics than I do. So he said, no, no, let them come, let them do their job, turn on the lights, you raise the curtain. Now there are three men working there, the curtain is up and Kareena is lying down. I ask Kareena, are you sure? But Kareena doesn’t understand my point, she feels comfortable. Who will go up and down again and again, I’m fine here. I was shocked.
Imtiaz told in her conversation how confident women are in the industry. According to the director, there are many such incidents where it is shown that no one has any problem. Everyone works comfortably.
