The story of Sony Liv’s web series ‘Freedom at Midnight’ is uniquely from our country. But those who wrote this story were both British writers. Nikhil Advani’s team worked on the book of these two foreign writers and made a web series on it for the Indian audience. When asked what work is done on a foreign book and a foreign point of view before presenting it to the Indian audience, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ fame director Nikhil Advani gave a very interesting answer about Bollywood content .
Nikhil Advani said that entire Bollywood copies foreign content. The entire Bollywood is built on the basis that we have copied the content from the West. First Hollywood and now the South. But I agree with your points. I’m not making fun of this question at all. When we read the book, we knew that at the time it was about Mountbatten, who was our last viceroy. I loved the work of Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre. He wrote his book ‘Is Paris Burning?’ I read it and then told him that I give you my diary, my records, notes, my letters that I had written to Nehru or Gandhi, I also give you access to the records of our meetings. Just write a book about how this huge power shift happened, how I did a good job.

What does Nikhil Advani have to say?
Nikhil said that when we decided to make a web series on ‘Freedom at Midnight’, I, our writer, Danish (head of Sony TV), had all decided that we would have to change the way of making this story. But there are many important things in this book. The events that took place from August 16, 1946 to January 30, 1948, thanks to which we gained independence, thanks to which our country was divided into two parts. Even after years, we still talk about it and we should talk about it in the future too. Because we must never forget our history. We have used references from this book, through which I wanted to take the audience into the rooms where these people are sitting and talking to each other.
Gandhi was against partition
Nikhil further said that in this series you can see that they are talking to each other about what we should do next. Due to direct action, people of Punjab and Calcutta went crazy and killed each other. Lahore was burning. Murders were taking place in Rawalpindi. There was devastation all over the country and these people felt that if we give Mohammad Ali Jinnah what he wants, then this violence will stop. Sardar Patel was very sure of this, Nehru had to be convinced of this. Gandhi I never agreed with this. Because he believed that partition would lead to even greater destruction. We tell you all these things in the series.
