All parties are going hard in the election campaign for the by-elections to be held in four Punjab Assembly seats. The Election Commission has already sent notice to Lok Sabha MP from Ludhiana Amarinder Singh Raja Wading and BJP candidate from Gidderbaha Manpreet Singh Badal. Now the latest case is related to Congress Lok Sabha member from Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi, whose statement has become controversial.

According to information received, Charanjit Singh Channi was campaigning for Congress candidate Amrita Wadding in Gidderbaha. During this, he made a controversial statement targeting the BJP and AAP by giving an example of a woman. It is said that during his statement women were also present at the demonstration. BJP and AAP leaders are said to have raised doubts over Channi’s statement at the election rally. He says Channi has insulted women. Regarding this matter, AAP and BJP have demanded the Women’s Commission to take action against Channi. Taking cognizance of this, the Raj Lali Gill Women’s Commission has issued a notice to Channi.

‘Channi’s attitude towards women is wrong’

The Women’s Commission said Channi’s video went viral and everyone saw it. He said that Channi’s perception of making incorrect comments about women remains, it is not from today but it is quite old. He said Channi had never touched a woman in the wrong place before. Sometimes, in a public place, he touches a woman’s cheek and apologizes. He said that now Channi, who had gone to Gidderbaha to campaign for Amrita, has set an example by making wrong comments about women, the Pandit community and the Jat community. He said that how can Channi, who has such a thought, hold the post of CM? He said that the terminology used is quite condemnable. The Women’s Commission said Amrita Wadding tolerated Channi’s indecent comments for the sake of votes. She said that being a woman, if Amrita had stopped Channi, everyone would have praised her.

Channi wants to disturb the peace of Punjab

The Women’s Commission said that all women in Punjab should raise their voice against Amrita Wadding’s silence and against Channi’s indecent comments. He said the NCW should also take action against Channi. He said that do you want to disturb the peace of Punjab with such words? The Women’s Commission said that if women take to the streets against Channi, Channi Sahib and Amrita Wadding will be held responsible. He said a show cause notice is being issued in this matter and he should give his reply within a day. The Women Commission said that if MP Channi does not respond within a day, a letter will be written to the DGP taking strict action against him. In such a situation, any legal provision adopted will be imposed on MP Channi.

Demand for action against former CM Channi

In fact, AAP candidate from Giddarbaha Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon said that Charanjit has mocked women and the Women’s Commission should take action on the matter. AAP candidate Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon has said that Charanjit Channi is using such wrong words in front of a female candidate. He said that he had been the CM of Punjab and had given a wrong statement at the election rally about women. He said the Women’s Commission should take action against Channi.

BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari also targeted Charanjit Channi and said this is the mindset of not just Channi but the entire Congress. He has insulted the women, the Brahmins and the Jats of Punjab. The BJP leader alleged that this statement reflects the value of communalism and caste system in his mind.
