Grap-3 to be implemented in Delhi

The country’s capital, Delhi, has become a gas chamber. The AQI level has crossed 400. In such a situation, the GRAP Sub-Committee has implemented Phase III of the revised GRAP across the NCR. This will come into effect from 08:00 am on November 15, 2024 (Friday). With the implementation of the third phase of GRAP, many new restrictions will be imposed in order to control the level of pollution in the city.

Smog has increased along with pollution in and around the national capital Delhi. In the capital, the AQI was 432, meaning the air was recorded in the “severe” category. In Noida, adjacent to Delhi, also the AQI was 372, i.e. the air here was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category.

Prohibition of these works in Grape 3

Vehicle: Ban on diesel engine vehicles registered in Delhi and small vehicles carrying goods of BS level 3 or below. Vehicles with BS3 standards or below cause much more pollution than new vehicles.

Construction: Any type of construction and demolition work will be prohibited in NCR. These activities generate dust and spread pollution.

Mining: Work related to excavation is also prohibited. This also generates dust and causes a lot of pollution.

Water spray: Water is sprayed daily on all major roads to reduce the amount of dust or other small particles in the air. Water guns are also installed in many places. This reduces the AQI level in the air.

The restrictions increase with each step.

Different phases of GRAP are implemented depending on the air pollution situation in Delhi. The first phase of GRAP comes into effect when the AQI level crosses 200. At the same time, when it crosses 300, the second phase is implemented and when it crosses 400, the third phase is implemented. When the AQI exceeds 450, the fourth phase of the blockade comes into effect. The constraints increase with each stage of the graph. The Delhi government implemented Grap-3 last year. During this period, apart from essential government work, all types of construction work were prohibited. Additionally, BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles were banned.
