The Israeli Navy captured a senior member of Hezbollah in northern Lebanon. An Israeli army officer gave this information on Saturday. Without revealing the name of the detainee, the officer said that this action took place in the city of Batroun, in northern Lebanon.
Earlier on Saturday, Lebanese officials said they were investigating whether Israel had captured a Lebanese ship captain who was taken by a group of armed men who landed on the coast of Batrun on Friday. The official said the captured senior member has been sent to Israeli territory and is currently being interrogated.
At the same time, the United Nations Interim Force (UNIF) has refused to participate in this action by the Israeli Navy. According to media reports, the United Nations Interim Force said that UNIFIL is not involved in kidnapping anyone or violating any laws in Lebanon. These rumors endanger peacekeeping forces.
