3 patients have died so far
Chandigarh News (Aaj Samaj) Chandigarh: Large-scale dengue cases are being reported every day in Haryana. While Panchkula district ranks first in new dengue cases, dengue cases are continuously being reported from many districts situated on the GT Road strip and the situation has become worrying. Dengue cases are continuously increasing in the state of Haryana including Panchkula and Hisar, Hisar and Panchkula have become hotspots. A young man died due to dengue at Agroha Medical College, Hisar. The worst affected areas are Hisar, Panchkula, Gurugram, Karnal, Rewari, Sonipat and Faridabad districts.
Let us also tell you that if a patient wants to get tested at a private hospital, the government has fixed its price at Rs 600. Dengue testing is done free of charge at the public hospital; if a patient has platelet deficiency, it costs Rs 11,000. Whereas it is available free of charge in government hospitals. In view of the rise in dengue cases, the health department has started taking samples quickly. Along with dengue, viral infection is also increasing and information about dengue cases is also sent to the Municipal Corporation.
In 2021, a maximum of 11,836 cases occurred.
In 2015, a total of 9,921 cases of dengue were reported in the state. While in 2016, 2,494 cases were reported. Following this, a massive decline in new cases was recorded to 4,550 in 2017 and 2018. A total of 1,936 cases of the disease were reported this year. Then, in 2020, 1,377 cases were confirmed. Subsequently, in 2021, dengue cases have multiplied and 11,836 cases were confirmed in a period of one year. Then next year, in 2022, 8,996 new cases arrived. There have been 8,081 cases in 2023. More than 4,000 cases have been reported so far this year.
48 people have died from dengue in 10 years
So far, 4 people have lost their lives due to the disease in Haryana. Although more people are believed to have died from the disease, some deaths have been kept in the category of suspicious deaths by the department. At the same time, let us also say that in Haryana last year in 2022, the maximum number of 18 people died due to the disease, while in 2015, the disease claimed the lives of 13 people. There have been no deaths due to the disease in the five-year period from 2016 to 2020. A total of 44 people have died in the nine-year period between 2015 and 2023. In this context, each year on average more than 5 people die from of diseases. In the year 2024, four patients have died from the disease so far.
Dengue in epidemic category
The four VBDs prevalent in Haryana have been notified under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 till March 31, 2027 and a notification has been issued to all private hospitals/laboratories to report each case to the health authorities within 24 hours of detection. To diagnose malaria, door-to-door fever monitoring has been intensified in all districts. A rapid fever survey was carried out in all villages from the 1st to the 10th of each month, May to October, to detect malaria-related fever cases. Dengue testing has been strengthened in all districts. Blood sampling has also been initiated at the HCC/PHC level, focusing on high-risk areas.
27 dengue testing laboratories in the state
A total of 27 dengue testing laboratories are operating in the state, with at least one laboratory in each district. Additionally, private hospitals and laboratories have been banned from charging a maximum of Rs 600 for the recommended dengue test (ELISA-based NS1/IgM). Single donor platelets (SDP) have been provided free of charge to Haryana native dengue patients admitted to government hospitals in the state. At present, a total of seven platelet apheresis facilities (Panchkula Civil Hospital, Gurugram, Hisar and Faridabad, PGIMS Rohtak, KCGMC Karnal and BPSGMC Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat) are functioning in the state. Apart from this, a provision has also been made to provide free SDP from private blood banks to dengue patients native to Haryana admitted in government hospitals, the expense of which is borne by the state government. A total of 72 apheresis machines are operational in private hospitals in the state. In civil hospitals, 196 wards and 1,022 beds have been reserved for dengue patients.
Notice issued to 103,485 people
Fogging work is done by the urban local body and the panchayat department. A total of 5,606 manual and 43 vehicle-operated fogging machines are available in the state. Gambusia fish are being released into reservoirs from mother fish hatcheries. A total of 9,093 reservoirs have been identified and around 8,459 have been inserted in Gambusia. A total of 116 mother hatcheries are available in the state. The larvicide temefos is used in water containers that cannot be emptied. The municipal ordinances (VBD control) of 2010 are in force in the state, according to which around 103,485 notices have been issued until September 15, 2024 to the owners of premises where mosquito breeding sites have been found.
