London: After the body of a woman of Indian origin was found a few days ago in the boot of a car in east London, her relatives have called for justice. British police investigating the case are searching for her Indian-origin husband, Pankaj Lamba, on suspicion of the murder of 24-year-old Harshita Brela. In an interview with the BBC this week, Brela’s mother Sudesh Kumari, father Satbir Brela and sister Sonia Dabas spoke tearfully about Harshita’s death.
What did the family say?
“I want my son-in-law to be brought to justice and my daughter’s body returned home,” Satbir Brela told the BBC in Delhi. She described her daughter as a simple and serious young woman who wanted to be a teacher. Harshita got married last year and moved to Britain in April. Sister Sonia Dabas said she had told Harshita to quit her job and return to India. The family says they last spoke to Harshita on the phone on November 10, when she told them she had prepared food and was waiting for Pankaj to return home. After that, Harshita’s phone remained switched off for the next two days. After this, the worried family asked some acquaintances to file a complaint on November 13.

“Following investigations, we suspect that Harshita was murdered by her husband Pankaj Lamba in Northamptonshire earlier this month,” Detective Chief Inspector Paul Cash told Ilford (east London) while hiding in the car. “We believe he has now fled the country.”

According to the family, Harshita’s husband had complained that she did not cook food on time and that she talked too much to her mother. In late August, Harshita called her father in India to tell him that she had left home because her husband was abusive to her. (Language)
