This student’s only crime was applying nail polish and dyeing her hair. According to a report by Iran International, teenage student Aynaz Karimi committed suicide in Fars province, southern Iran. According to the report, the student committed suicide after allegedly receiving threats and incidents of violence from the school principal.

According to the Coordinating Council of the Iranian Educators’ Business Association, ‘the student was under immense pressure not to follow the school rules. Especially when it comes to applying nail polish and dying your hair.

In Iran there are strict restrictions on women’s clothing. In the year 2022, Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old girl, died in police custody in Iran. Police allegedly arrested Mahsa Amini for not wearing the hijab properly and severely beat her.
