Chandigarh News|Chandigarh: Demand to conduct Punjab University Senate elections at the earliest: The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice to the PU VC, Registrar and Central and Punjab Government and sought their response. The High Court has directed all parties to submit their replies within two weeks.
Advocate Vaibhav Vats has filed a petition in this case. The petition says that the term of Panjab University Senate ended in October last month, but these elections have not been held yet. While as per the rules of the Punjab University Act, these elections should have been held before the end of the Senate’s term, it is not yet known when they will be held. The PU Senate is the highest policy-making body of the university and in its absence, many important policy decisions cannot be made. Now the Senate’s term has ended, so the functioning of the PU is affected.
The petitioner has also demanded the appointment of a body of 10 senior professors of the PU to conduct the Senate elections and ensure the day-to-day functioning of the PU until the elections are held.
The petitioner had also represented the Registrar and all others including the VC of PU, on which no action has been taken yet, for which the petitioner has filed a PIL before the High Court demanding holding of Senate elections as soon as possible. as soon as possible.
