High Court sends notice to Sugarcane Commissioner and requests response by November 29

Allahabad High Court

The Allahabad High Court has issued notice to Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Commissioner Prabhunarayan Singh. Along with this, they were also directed to submit a response along with an affidavit regarding the problems related to the sugarcane purchasing centers before November 29. This order was given on a contempt petition by Rakesh Kumar Singh of Kushinagar and other farmers. The farmers had written a letter to the Sugarcane Commissioner denouncing irregularities in the sugarcane purchasing centers, but no solution was found.

This worries the farmers because due to the sugarcane arriving beyond the capacity of the purchasing centres, there is a delay in weighing, due to which the sugarcane dries up and the farmers face losses. Earlier, the court had directed the Commissioner of Sugarcane to issue orders in this matter by October 16, 2023, but no action was taken on his part. The farmers filed a petition before the High Court, alleging that due to lack of arrangements at the purchasing centres, their sugarcane was rotting and the farmers were suffering financial losses while waiting for weighing.

Court gave order to sugarcane commissioner

In this matter, the court had directed the Sugarcane Commissioner to file a complaint with the UP government and resolve the matter within a month. Due to non-compliance with this order, the farmers have filed a contempt petition, regarding which the court has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Sugarcane. The court has made it clear to the Sugarcane Commissioner that he must file an affidavit by November 29 or personally appear before the court and respond to the matter.

They summon the sugarcane commissioner

The hearing of this case will now take place on November 29. So far there has been no response from the Sugar Cane Commissioner on this matter, but the court has summoned him to determine his responsibility. Now it remains to be seen what measures the Sugar Cane Commissioner takes in this matter and if the farmers find a solution to the problems of the purchasing centers.
