The samosa controversy is continuously gaining momentum in Himachal Pradesh. When the BJP alleged that someone else had eaten CM Sukhu’s samosas, the Himachal government launched a CBI probe. After this, officials associated with the government said that no CBI investigation had been initiated. The CID also said that this is an internal matter and other people should not be involved in it. Finally CM Sukhu said in an interview that he does not eat samosas at all. In such a situation, the question then becomes who the samosas were for and why all the fuss. Let’s understand the whole matter.
CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had attended a CID program as chief guest. For this program organized at the CID headquarters, three boxes of samosas and cakes were ordered from Hotel Radisson Blu located at Lakkar Bazaar. However, these snacks did not reach the CM and were served to the security team. The matter was investigated by a deputy SP officer and the incident was termed as an “anti-government act”, leading to an uproar.
What did the BJP say?
BJP state spokesperson Chetan Bragta, while criticizing the state government over the samosas and cake controversy, said that if a CID probe can be initiated if the samosas are not received, then it will be clearly visible what is the priority of Himachal Pradesh. government. He said that currently there are many other big problems in Himachal Pradesh but the Himachal Pradesh government is focusing only on food products. A CID investigation is being launched if samosas are not found. Not only this, this incident is also described as anti-government. In Himachal Pradesh, development work has been paralyzed for two years, but the state government does not pay attention to it. In such a situation, the Himachal Pradesh government and the Chief Minister should leave aside all these small issues and focus on development works.
DIC cleanup
Regarding the controversy over the samosa probe, CID director general Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha has said that it is an internal matter of the CID. The interim investigation report that has gone viral is a cause for concern. No notice has been issued against any employee. Politicizing the issue is unfortunate. The CID’s internal investigation report found that the job of bringing samosas for the CM was assigned to an SI, who handed over the job to his junior staff. After this, samosas and cakes arrived, but due to a misunderstanding they were distributed among the security team. At the end of the program an official asked what had happened to the ordered merchandise and the matter came to light.
Opposition Leader Statement
Opposition leader Jairam Thakur said about the samosa incident: How did a samosa become an anti-government act? The opponents did not eat the samosa. The grandiose machinery of the government is busy tracking down the person who ate the samosa. Anarchy and corruption are at their peak at all levels of the state.
Statement by CM’s media advisor
CM Sukhu’s media advisor Naresh Chauhan says the government has not ordered any such probe. The government has nothing to do with this matter. This is an internal matter of the CID department and they are investigating the matter at their own level. Everyone knows that the Chief Minister does not eat food from outside. In such a situation, this is just a conspiracy to defame the government. BJP leaders are unnecessarily giving importance to the issue. Since the BJP has no problem, it is wrongly campaigning against the Congress government through this issue.
Who did they bring the samosas for? Why is there so much fuss?
According to the CM’s media advisor, he does not eat food from outside. In such a situation, samosas and cakes were ordered for other officials participating in the program. Now, if the security personnel ate the officers’ breakfast, there would surely be an uproar. For this reason, an investigation was carried out and it was described as an anti-government act. However, the opposition gave it a different color and now the CM also has to give clarifications.
