Farmers in Uttar Pradesh hope to get debt relief from the government by taking loans from the Cooperative Department. Through Ghazipur government committees, the government has extended loans of approximately Rs 10 crore (44 lakh) to 5,671 farmers for fertilizers and seeds. That farmers are no longer depositing, about which the Cooperative Department has also issued a notice. Farmers will now be charged a 5% collection rate. People said farmers are waiting for the loan waiver scheme. Farmers want the government to forgive their loans. This is the reason why farmers default on loans and this loan has increased to around Rs 11 million.
To provide convenience to farmers in agriculture, the Department of Cooperatives provides loans based on ownership of land and crops through the committees run by the cooperative. So that farmers can easily carry out fertilizers, seeds and other necessary work for their fields. Once the crop is harvested and sold, any interest owed by the committee can be paid along with the loan. For which the Department of Cooperatives provided loans to thousands of farmers in the Kharif and Rabi season 2023-24. Of which, many farmers have repaid their loans but still 5,617 farmers in the district owe Rs 10 crore (44 lakh) to the cooperative societies.

For repayment of this loan, farmers were contacted several times through cooperative societies and also asked to deposit the loan, but the farmers have no interest in depositing the loan. At the same time, the department plans to issue a notice under section 95A and charge a 5% fee to all farmers who default on the loan.
Cooperative AR Anshul Kumar said loans are given to farmers based on land ownership and crop. The department has identified 5,617 farmers through 156 committees. Those who have quotas from cooperative societies. Farmers were contacted several times regarding these dues but farmers are not showing any interest in depositing their loans.
