Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that if the ruling BJP at the Center had adopted the vision of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, then Jammu and Kashmir would not have been in the situation it is in today. Paying tribute in the Assembly, Omar praised the former Prime Minister and said Vajpayee always tried to improve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister said that I know him (Vajpayee) and have worked with him as a minister.
When we remember Vajpayee, we remember him in the context of Jammu and Kashmir. He always tried to improve the situation and reduce tension in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister said that when Vajpayee went to Pakistan in the first Delhi-Lahore bus in 1999, he visited Minar-e-Pakistan, which was not easy. He extended the hand of friendship again and again despite the setbacks. He worked to open routes across the Line of Control, which were later closed. He tried to bring civil society closer.

Dispute between party and opposition, BJP rejected the proposal

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today witnessed a political stir as Deputy Chief Minister Sundar Chaudhary moved a motion supporting the proposal to hold talks with the central government to restore the state’s special status. However, the proposal caused quite a stir in the Assembly, with heated exchanges between the BJP and other opposition parties. The Deputy Chief Minister moved a proposal in the Assembly for restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and for this talks should be held with the Central Government. At the same time, the BJP opposed this proposal, calling it legally invalid, and said that after the abolition of Article 370 in 2019, this proposal has no legal force. BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Surinder Chaudhary rejected the proposal, saying it had no legal constitutional basis as the state’s special status had been abolished. He said this step is like promoting an anti-national agenda.
