extort money out of fear
It creates an atmosphere of fear and says that the investigation can take a long time. He then asks you for money as a bribe and asks you to transfer that money to different accounts. By saying this he assures that all his legal matters will be resolved soon. This is their main fraud method.
How to avoid this fraud
- Verify Identity: Verify the identity of the caller. Government officials never ask for money over video call or phone.
- Don’t be afraid: if someone threatens you, tell the police.
- Complaint: Report any such calls to the bank and local authorities immediately.
- Be careful with these types of calls. No legal matter is resolved over the phone. Don’t be fooled by the words of scammers and contact official channels to get correct information.
