Ahmedabad: An IIT Delhi research student died due to a cave collapse at the Lothal archaeological site in Gujarat. While three others are injured. The deceased student has been identified as Surbhi Verma. The research team has been collecting geological samples in Lothal for the past three days. Meanwhile, under the project, they are collecting samples this morning by descending into a 12-15 feet deep well near Sargwara, near Lothal. Meanwhile, suddenly the rock collapsed and Surabhi Verma died, while Yam Dixit was injured.
The injured were admitted to the hospital.
The deceased Surabhi Verma was originally from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. He joined IIT Delhi last year. He had come to Lothal to collect geological samples as part of a research project. Upon receiving information about the incident, 108 crews, firefighters and police rushed to the scene. Both women were rescued after a rescue operation. After this he was transferred to Vadodara. The injured woman is undergoing treatment, while the autopsy on Surbhi Verma’s body has been conducted.
