Keeping in mind the interests of children, the government has closed all schools and colleges in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Giving information, state Education Minister Arumugam Namassivayam said all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain closed on Wednesday. Please note that there are chances of heavy rain in the state. The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rain in the state for 2 days.
Order to close all schools and colleges
Giving information, the Education Minister said that due to heavy rains, a holiday has been declared on Wednesday, November 28, 2024 in all public and private schools, government-aided schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal. According to the Meteorological Department, the impact of Cyclone Fengal can also be seen in the Union Territory.
CM held emergency meeting
Earlier today, Chief Minister N Rangasamy chaired an emergency meeting of officials of various departments to review the situation created by heavy rains in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The preparation of various departments to deal with the rains and the possible impact of Cyclone Fengal was also discussed. A press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that in the last 24 hours up to 5 pm on Wednesday, Puducherry recorded 7.5 cm of rain and Karaikal region recorded 9.5 cm of rain during the same period.
All necessary measures must be taken on a war footing-CM
The Chief Minister asked the officials of Disaster Management, Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation to ensure that all necessary measures are taken on a war footing as soon as the weather forecast on the deep depression is issued by the India Meteorological Department. Please note that the IMD has predicted heavy rain in Puducherry and Karaikal in the next two days.
Order to send people to relief camp
Rangasamy directed departmental officials to ensure that people living in low-lying areas are evacuated to relief camps. A control room has been opened that operates 24 hours a day. Arrangements have been made to provide food packets to people living in relief camps. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been called in from Arakkonam for relief operations. The press release says that 60 water pumps have been placed in the hands of municipalities and tax authorities to remove rainwater from low-lying areas. In addition, fishermen have been warned not to go into the sea. As soon as the order was received, the police closed the entire beach street for people.
