Desk : Amid growing global interest in multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL), India has started supplying high-capacity Pinaka rockets to Armenia. Defense sources told ANI news agency that the first batch of the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launch system has been supplied to Armenia.
The Pinaka rocket launcher is a highly capable weapons system that can engage targets at a distance of more than 80 kilometers. The contract between Indian companies and Armenia for the supply of these weapons was signed about two years ago after long negotiations with the United States. and France, Armenia is one of the three largest buyers of Indian weapons and equipment.
Several countries in Southeast Asia and Europe have shown interest in Pinaka rockets, of which several variants have been developed in recent times and the Indian Army is considering introducing them on a large scale.
DRDO has also recently carried out major tests of the Pinaka guided rocket, manufactured by Nagpur-based Solar Industries Economic Explosives Ltd and state-owned Munitions India Ltd.
France has shown interest in acquiring this weapons system.
France’s interest in this rocket system, named after the divine bow of Hindu Lord Shiva, was demonstrated during the high-level visit of Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan earlier this year.
India has been promoting indigenous systems for export markets and the Center has managed to triple its success since 2014. It is noteworthy that France is the second largest importer of Indian defense equipment after the United States and that many electronic products from India they go there.
