New Delhi: India has jumped 11 places to rank 49th globally in the Network Readiness Index (NRI) 2024. The government gave this information on Wednesday. According to this report published by the Washington DC-based Portulance Institute, India’s score has increased from 49.93 in 2023 to 53.63 in 2024.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, India has been a leader in many parameters such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), FTTH Internet subscription and mobile broadband Internet traffic.
India’s major achievements
- In the field of AI: India ranks first in “AI Scientific Publications” and “AI Talent Concentration”.
- In export of ICT services: India occupies first place.
- FTTH/Internet Subscription Construction: India is second.
- Mobile broadband traffic: The country also ranks second in this category.
- Investment in telecom services: India ranks fourth.
Analyzing 133 economies, the index assessed performance across four main pillars (technology, people, governance and impact) and 54 parameters.
Symbol of digital progress
India’s digital progress and technological innovations are highlighted in the NRI 2024 report. Due to improvements in telecom infrastructure in the last decade, teledensity has increased from 75.2% to 84.69%. The number of wireless connections has reached 119 crore.
The Digital India initiative has played an important role in increasing broadband connectivity in rural areas. The number of Internet users has increased from 251 million to 944 million.
5G and preparing for the future
India’s global mobile broadband speed ranking has improved from 118th to 15th after the launch of 5G services in 2022. India now aims to establish global leadership in next-generation telecom technologies under the ‘India 6G Vision’. ”.
