Tension is rising in Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Indian Army said that Indian soldiers deployed under the command of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon are completely safe, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information and Coordination Systems) Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor said the Middle Eastern country is located in the conflict-affected areas of Lebanon. Deployed Indian UN peacekeepers are safe.
Lt. Gen. Kapoor emphasized that Indian troops are strictly following UN orders and are being closely monitored by Indian Army leaders. Although India cannot take a unilateral decision on evacuation, contingency plans have been made to ensure its safety and evacuation if the situation worsens.
Currently, India has around 900 soldiers deployed under the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. These peacekeepers, deployed in some of the most volatile regions, represent India’s main contribution to international peacekeeping efforts.
Currently, more than 5,000 Indian soldiers are deployed in 10 UN missions around the world. India has participated in 53 of the 72 UN peacekeeping missions since the inception of the programme.
Lt Gen Kapoor also highlighted the professionalism and flexibility of Indian soldiers, due to which they remain prepared with dignity and dedication in challenging environments.
