However, Sanaul Haq alias Maulana Asim Umar was killed in Afghanistan in 2019 in a joint operation between US agencies and Afghan forces. The Delhi Police also arrested many Al Qaeda (AQIS) terrorists from Deepa Sarai of Sambhal, where the riots took place.

Apart from this, Al Qaeda terrorist Zafar alias Guddu also resides in Deepa Sarai in Sambhal. In 2016, the court convicted him of being involved in terrorist activities.
