Iron ore production in India increased by 5.5% to 135 million tonnes (MT) in the first half of this financial year compared to last year. It was 128 MT in the corresponding period of the last financial year, the Ministry of Mining said on Friday.
Manganese ore production also increased by 6.2% to 1.7 million tonnes (MMT) compared to the first half of FY24. India also increased coal production in October.
Among non-ferrous metals, primary aluminum production increased by 1.2% to 20.90 lakh tonnes (LT) compared to the same period last year. Pure copper production increased by 4.6% to 2.50 LT.
According to the ministry, India is the world’s second largest producer of aluminum, among the top 10 producers of pure copper and the fourth largest producer of iron ore.
“These growth trends indicate continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automobiles and machinery,” the ministry said.
Coal production in October reached 84.45 MT, an increase of 7.48% compared to last year. The total coal production as of October 2024 is 537.45 MT.
