Connections to Iran have been claimed in the assassination of future US president Donald Trump. The US Department of Justice on Friday announced criminal charges in connection with Iran’s failed plot to assassinate Donald Trump. A criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan alleges that an officer in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard (whose name is not known) ordered an acquaintance in September to monitor Trump and plot to assassinate him.
The complaint states that the officer told a man named Farzad Shakeri that if he did not come up with a plan by then (before the election), Iran would postpone its plot until after the presidential election, because the officer believed Trump would lose and then he would be easy to kill him.
According to the complaint, Shakeri told the FBI that the officer had asked him to formulate a plan within seven days, but that he had no intention of proposing a plan within that period. Federal officials have previously said that Iran is trying to attack the country’s government officials, including Trump, on U.S. soil.
