Is the Pawar family bigger than the alliance for Ajit? Despite the setback in Baramati, I am not ready for a ‘booster dose’

Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to hold an election rally in his Baramati constituency as there is a fight within the family. Incumbent MLA Pawar is contesting against his nephew Yugendra Pawar. Yugendra is the candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), led by Sharad Pawar.

Prime Minister Modi begins the election campaign for the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held on November 20 from today. On this issue, when Ajit was asked why the Prime Minister was not organizing a rally in his constituency, he said that the contest in Baramati is within the family. It is clear from this statement by Ajit that for him the Pawar family is bigger than the alliance.

Why did Ajit refuse to campaign for PM?

Prime Minister Modi is the biggest star of the NDA campaign. The party and its supporters have openly said that as soon as Modi starts campaigning, the elections are annulled and his tone and mood changes. All the alliance candidates want Prime Minister Modi to campaign for them in their area. But Ajit Pawar wants to keep PM Modi away from Baramati citing it as a family matter.

This is when Ajit Pawar already suffered a setback in the family fight in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His wife Sunetra Pawar had lost the election from here in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Here she faced competition from her sister-in-law Supriya Sule. After his wife’s defeat, Ajit admitted that he should not have unseated his wife from this seat.

What happened is that out of four Lok Sabha seats, it got only one. Despite this, Ajit has asked Prime Minister Modi not to campaign. There is a family fight in Baramati seat. Sharad Pawar has sent his grandson Yugrendra Pawar, while Ajit himself has sent him from here. The credibility of both Sharad and Ajit is at stake in the Baramati assembly seat.

Sharad Pawar’s occupation of Baramati for six decades

Sharad Pawar has been occupying the Baramati assembly seat for six decades. If Ajit Pawar wins from this seat, then Sharad Pawar’s 60-year rule will end. At the same time, in this battle for prestige, if Ajit loses the elections from here on, he will hardly have any option left.
