Beirut: The Israeli military said Thursday that its fighter jets bombed southern Lebanon after detecting Hezbollah activity at a rocket storage facility. This is the first Israeli airstrike a day after the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force. There was no immediate information on the victims of the Israeli airstrike. Israel said Hezbollah violated the ceasefire agreement, but gave no details.
What will happen to the ceasefire agreement?
Lebanon’s official National News Agency said the attack wounded two people. The series of incidents has raised concerns about the deal negotiated between the United States and France, which includes an initial two-month ceasefire. According to this, Hezbollah fighters must withdraw north of the Litani River and Israeli forces must return to their side of the border. The buffer zone will be patrolled by Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers.

Gunshot sound is heard
Lebanon’s state news agency reported that Israeli gunfire targeted civilians in Merkabah, near the border, but gave no further details. An Associated Press reporter in northern Israel, near the border, heard Israeli drones passing overhead and gunshots from the Lebanese side. Israeli officials have said troops will gradually withdraw once the deal is implemented.
Israel’s right to attack
Israel has warned the population not to return to areas where troops are deployed. He has said that if Hezbollah violates the terms of the ceasefire, it has the right to attack it. A Lebanese military official said that as Israeli forces withdraw, Lebanese troops would gradually deploy southward. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he did not have the right to give information to the media. (AP)
