Jhansi hospital fire: The death of 10 children in a fire at a hospital in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, shocked the hearts of people. During the accident, a nurse showed bravery and managed to rescue 15 children with the help of the staff.
Nurse Megha James was on duty at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi when the incident occurred on Friday. While chaos reigned when a sudden fire broke out in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), Megha, without worrying about her own life, managed to save around 15 children with the help of other staff members, James Keval and She. He just wanted to save the children’s lives and during this time he didn’t even care about getting burned.

While saving the children, a part of Megha’s clothes got burnt but she did not lose her courage. Referring to the incident to PTI, Megha said, “I had gone to look for a syringe to vaccinate a child. When I returned I saw that the (oxygen) concentrator was on fire. I called the boy in the room. “He brought a fire extinguisher and tried to put out the fire, but by then the fire had spread.”

“My slippers caught fire and my foot got burnt. Then my salwar caught fire. I took off my salwar and threw it away. At that time, my brain was hardly functioning,” he told PTI. She just put on another salwar and came back. to the rescue operation.
He said: “There was a lot of smoke and when the lights went out we couldn’t see anything. All the staff took out at least 14 or 15 children. In the ward there were 11 beds in which 23 or 24 children were If the light had not gone out off, he could have saved all of this. None of us expected it.
The hospital praised
Deputy Superintendent of Nursing Nalini Sood praised James’ bravery. He said: “The hospital staff broke the glass of the NICU room to get the babies out. Meanwhile, Nurse Megha’s clothes caught fire but without being distracted by this, she stood her ground to save the children. Sood said that Megha is currently being treated at the same hospital.

The nursing superintendent said he did not know how badly she (Megha) had suffered burns in the fire. Dr Anshul Jain, head of anesthesiology department at the Medical College and Hospital, said the hospital had completely followed the protocol, due to which the lives of many people could be saved. Jhansi district magistrate Avinash Kumar said a baby rescued from the fire died due to illness on Sunday.
