Jharkhand assembly elections: First phase of voting
Jharkhand assembly elections Ahead of Wednesday’s first phase voting, Returning Officer of Ranchi Assembly constituency Utkarsh Kumar said mock polls would begin at 5.30 am after which voting would begin. He reported that the mock voting will begin at 5:30 a.m., after which voting will begin. All basic amenities including drinking water, toilets and webcasting facilities are available at all polling stations. Security and CAPF elements have been deployed at the polling stations. All rules and instructions prescribed by the Election Commission are followed.
The second phase of voting in the remaining 38 constituencies of Jharkhand will be held on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.
We told you that in the last assembly elections, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had won 30 seats, the BJP 25 and the Congress 16 seats.
A total of 683 candidates, including 73 women, are in the fray for seats in the first phase.
Among the 43 constituencies, 17 are reserved for general seats, 20 for scheduled tribes and six for scheduled castes.

Veterans’ reputations at stake
Former Chief Minister and BJP candidate Champai Soren is contesting from Seraikela, while Jamshedpur East Congressman Ajay Kumar is in the fray against Purnima Das Sahu, daughter-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and current Odisha Governor Raghubar Das.
In Jamshedpur West, Congress Health Minister Banna Gupta faces JDU leader Saryu Roy, who defeated then Chief Minister Raghubar Das in 2019.
In Jaganathpur, BJP’s Geeta Koda, wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, is contesting against Congress leader Sona Ram Sinku. In Ranchi, JMM has introduced Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji.
The term of the Fifth Jharkhand Assembly is scheduled to end on January 5, 2025.
After the last assembly elections, a coalition of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Indian National Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal formed the government, with Soren taking over as Chief Minister.
