Dumkah Election campaigning is in full swing for the assembly elections to be held on November 20 in Jamtara, Jharkhand. Irfan Ansari is contesting for the Indian Alliance on a Congress ticket, while Sita Soren is contesting for the NDA on a BJP ticket. Here the main contest is being seen between these two alliances. 13 candidates are vying for the Jamtara seat. They include Arif Ansari of BSP, Ahmed Hussain of Jharkhand People’s Party, Irfan Ansari of Congress, Lakhanlal Mandal of CPI(M), Sita Soren of BJP, Kuldeep Yadav of Hindustan People’s Party (Democratic), Tarun Kumar Gupta of Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha and Baleshwar Mandal. He is from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Akbar Ansari, Mukesh Murmu, Riyad Ahmed, Shatrughan Pandit and Sujit Das are trying their luck as independents. Jamtara seat falls under Dumka district. It is part of the Dumka Lok Sabha constituency. A web series has also been made in the name of Jamtara. Jamtara has always been in the news for fraud cases. Police from many states have come here to investigate the cyber fraud case. According to the 2011 census, Jamtara had a population of 29,415. Of them, 89 percent were Hindus and 10 percent were Muslims. The average literacy rate here is 63.73 percent.

According to Election Commission data, there were 1,65,820 voters in Jamtara during the 2019 assembly elections. Of them, 83,310 were men and 81,723 were women. In 2014, the total number of voters in Jamtara seat was 1,91,876. Of them, 99,704 were men and 91,424 were women.

Congress’s Irfan Ansari won the elections here in the 2019 assembly elections. The BJP came second with over 74,000 votes. Independent Tarun Kumar Gupta came in third position with 6,219 votes. Irfan and Tarun are back in the election fray. Irfan Ansari also won the 2014 elections as a Congress candidate. In the 2019 elections, Congress candidate Irfan Ansari won the seat by a margin of 38,741 votes. He received 1,12,829 votes with 53.11% votes. He defeated BJP candidate Birendra Mandal who received 74,088 votes (34.87%).
Congress candidate Irfan Ansari won the seat in the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly elections. He received 67,486 votes with 35.18% votes. BJP candidate Birendra Mandal got 58,349 votes (30.42%). Ansari defeated Mandal by a margin of 9,137 votes (4.76%). This time the BJP has expressed confidence in Sita Soren, who hails from the JMM.
