Kalina mounting seat.

The counting of votes will be held today for the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. The counting will begin at 8 am. This time all 288 seats were voted in a single phase. A tough contest can be seen in the Kalina assembly seat. There is a direct contest here between BJP’s Amarjeet Singh and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Potnis (Uddhav faction). Both candidates are striving to win this seat for their respective parties.

The Kalina assembly has been important for many political parties and each election has seen interesting contests. The Kalina assembly seat has had a strong Shiv Sena presence in the last few elections, but in the upcoming elections, the contest may be tough depending on the state of the alliance and local issues.

There is currently a Mahayuti coalition government in Maharashtra. Its head is Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction). Apart from Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) are also included in this alliance. On the other hand, the opposition alliance is Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). It includes Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, Congress and Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Electoral results of the year 2019.

The situation changed in the 2014 elections. Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Potnis won from the Kalina Assembly seat, making it clear that Shiv Sena’s control was strengthening in the area. However, after the elections, BJP and Shiv Sena formed an alliance and together ruled Maharashtra for 5 years. BJP and Shiv Sena contested the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections together.

Sanjay Potnis retained his victory. Shiv Sena won this seat for the second time in a row thanks to its strategy and organizational strength. However, in 2019, the dispute between the Shiv Sena and the BJP and the situation of contesting the elections separately has created some confusion in Kalina.

What are the voter numbers?

In the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Kripashankar Singh of the Indian National Congress won the Kalina Assembly seat. Kripashankar Singh’s victory was a major achievement for the Congress because at that time the Congress was in power in the state and was strengthening its control through alliances.

Kripashankar Singh was an experienced leader and Kalina area saw strong support from the Congress. According to data from 2009, there were a total of 2,57,576 voters in this seat, of which 1,44,501 men and 1,13,075 women.
