Paddy has been selling for one thousand rupees per quintal since last year.
Karnal News (Aaj Samaj) Karnal: Basmati rice producing farmers in Haryana are facing losses due to not getting the right price for their rice. The price of basmati rice has dropped by one thousand rupees compared to last year. Due to the high cost and low price of rice, farmers are facing a loss of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per acre. Farmers who brought rice to the market said production had decreased due to bad weather. On the other hand, due to the fall in the price of Barsmati rice, they are facing a double blow. Farmers say Haryana’s Basmati rice is famous all over the world, but still the price of rice continues to fall. Farmers said that nowadays farm expenses are increasing.
Growing a crop costs between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 per acre. But when the crop is harvested and sent to the market to be sold, the farmer is left heartbroken because he does not get a fair price there. Farmers said that this time the rate of basmati rice 1509 is Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,800 per quintal and the rate of rice 1121 is Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,200 per quintal, which is Rs 1,000 less than last year.
Government demand to set a fair rate
The farmer said that this time there has been a 30 to 40% decline in the yield of Basmati rice. He told me that he had grown rice on 40 acres of land but the yield was very low. If the performance had been good, huge profits would have been made, but this time we are facing losses. Farmers who came to the market with rice crops demanded that the government fix fair rates for the crops, so that they could get the right price for their hard work. Farmers can only recover from losses if they get fair prices for their crops.
