Newly elected President Donald Trump on Friday named his campaign press secretary, Carolyn Levitt, as White House press secretary. Levitt, 27, who is currently Trump’s spokesman, will be the youngest White House spokesman in US history.
Previously, this record was held by Ronald Ziegler, who was 29 years old when he assumed this position in 1969 during Richard Nixon’s term. Trump issued a statement praising Caroline and expressed hope that she would continue her excellent performance as before.
Trump said: “Carolyn Leavitt did a phenomenal job as national press secretary on my historic campaign and I am pleased to announce that she will serve as White House press secretary. Carolyn is smart, tough and has proven to be an extremely effective communicator.” “I am confident he will excel on the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we make America great again.”

Trump had 4 press secretaries in his first term
The White House press secretary typically serves as the public face of the administration and has historically held daily briefings for the press corps. Trump himself preferred to be his main spokesperson during his first term. Trump had four press secretaries during his tenure as president from 2017 to 2021, but he often preferred to interact directly with the public through his rallies, social media posts and his own briefings.
At a press conference last August, Trump was asked if there would be regular press conferences in his new administration. “I will give you full access and you will get a lot of press conferences,” he told reporters.
Levitt is a strong Trump supporter
Levitt, originally from New Hampshire, is seen as a strong supporter of Trump, who is a very intelligent woman. He has been aggressively defending Republicans in television interviews. He worked as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, before joining the 2024 campaign. In 2022, he ran for Congress in New Hampshire, winning the 10-candidate Republican primary before losing to incumbent Rep. Democrat Chris Pappas.

During Trump’s first term, Leavitt worked in the White House Press Office. She then became communications director for New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik. Trump’s first press secretaries, Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, were known for clashing with reporters. Another, Stephanie Grisham, never attended a briefing. His successor, Kelly McEnany, frequently lectured on the media during her appearances in the White House press briefing room.
