Kenyan President William Ruto, addressing the nation, announced the cancellation of all proposed deals with Indian company Adani Group. These agreements included large projects such as energy transmission and airport expansion. The Kenyan government has canceled a proposed $700 million power transmission deal with Adani Group. This agreement sought to create infrastructure for the transmission of electricity in the country. In addition, the Adani Group’s $1.8 billion proposal to expand an international airport was also cancelled.

Kenyan President Ruto said his government has canceled two major proposed deals with Indian company Adani Group. This decision has been taken following allegations of bribery against Adani Group in America. President Ruto said he has ordered the cancellation of the process to hand over control of Kenya’s main international airport to the Adani Group.

Accusations in America and the response of the Adani Group

According to US officials, Gautam Adani and seven others are accused of paying $265 million (approximately Rs 2.2 billion) in bribes to Indian government officials. However, Adani Group rejected these allegations and said it will resort to legal options. Earlier, Kenya’s Energy Minister Opio Wandyi had said there was no bribery or corruption in the transmission line project. This step by Kenya is considered a big blow for the Adani Group.
