Madras High Court dismisses petition against Sadhguru’s Padma Vibhushan award as baseless

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.

The Madras High Court has rejected a petition filed against the Padma Vibhushan award given to Sadhguru. In this petition, it was alleged that there were irregularities in the process of granting Padma Vibhushan to Sadhguru. However, the court rejected the petition, terming it as personal interest and said that the petitioner’s purpose is to target an individual and this petition is not in public interest.

The Additional Solicitor General, appearing for the Central Government, told the court that Sadhguru’s decades of good work had been recognized and he was nominated for the Padma Vibhushan award following all necessary procedures. No negative information or complaints have been found regarding this award.

What did the Additional Solicitor General say?

The Additional Solicitor General further said that this so-called PIL was filed by a group that has been regularly filing petitions against the Isha Foundation in many cases. He also said that in the previous cases filed by the same group against the Isha Foundation, the High Court had said that their objective could be personal gain.

Isha Foundation welcomed this decision of the High Court and said that this decision further strengthens the transparency of the adjudication process and also shows its commitment to public interest. Along with this, the Foundation said that despite such attacks, it will continue to work for the public interest.

The Supreme Court had also rejected a petition

Last month, the Supreme Court also rejected another petition filed by a retired professor, Dr S. Kamaraj had alleged that his two daughters were living in Isha Foundation against their will, one was 42 years old and the other was 39 years old.

However, the Supreme Court rejected this claim and clarified that both women live in the Isha Foundation of their own free will and without any pressure. During the hearing, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the purpose of such actions should not be to defame institutions and individuals.
