Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: This time in the Maharashtra Assembly, an interesting contest is going on in the Baramati Assembly seat. All eyes are on this seat. This time there is a contest between uncle and nephew for this assembly seat, which is considered the stronghold of the Pawar family. While Ajit Pawar is contesting from (NCP), Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP has given a ticket to Yugendra Pawar in this seat.

Baramati, stronghold of the Pawar family

The Baramati assembly seat has been held by the Congress since 1962 and subsequently by the NCP. In 1962, Maltibai Shirole of Congress won this seat. After this, Sharad Pawar won this seat in 1967. He then remained an MLA from this seat continuously until 1990. Sharad Pawar entered national politics in 1991 and his nephew Ajit Pawar got the Congress ticket from Baramati. Ajit Pawar also won in 1995 as a Congress candidate.

Sharad Pawar broke away from the Congress in 1999 and founded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In the 1999 assembly elections, he gave ticket to Ajit Pawar from Baramati Assembly. Ajit Pawar managed to win the elections. After this, Ajit Pawar has continuously won as NCP candidate in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

But this time the political equation is different. There has been a split in the Pawar family, whose headquarters is considered the stronghold of Baramati. This is the first assembly election after the dissolution of the NCP. One is Sharad Pawar’s group and the other is Ajit Pawar’s group. Sharad Pawar’s NCP is with Mahavikas Aghadi, while Ajit Pawar’s faction is in power in the state with Mahayuti.

Ajit Pawar won this seat in the 2019 assembly elections. He polled a total of 1,94,317 votes. While his rival Gopichand Padalkar of the BJP got 30,376 votes. BJP’s Ajit Pawar in the 2014 assembly elections.

A total of 23 candidates are in the running.

A total of 23 candidates are trying their luck from the Baramati assembly seat. Of them, 15 are independent. Samata Party, Sambhaji Brigade Party, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha, Bharatiya Praja Surajya Paksha along with Bahujan Samaj Party have fielded candidates for this seat. Let us tell you that voting will be held in a single phase on November 20 for a total of 288 Maharashtra Assembly seats. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.
