Mumbai: The results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections have come to light. In these elections, BJP-led Mahayuti won an excellent victory, while Mahavikas Aghadi suffered a crushing defeat. These elections have seen interesting contests in many seats, one of them is Mahim.
Raj Thackeray’s son participated in elections for the first time
Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray was in the MNS fray from the Mahim seat. This was the first election of his life. In such a situation, all eyes were fixed on this seat. But the people of Mahim did not trust Amit Thackeray and Amit lost the elections. Mahim Baliram Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT) won the Mahim seat.
Mahesh Baliram Sawant got a total of 50,213 votes. Shiv Sena’s Sada Sarwankar was at number two. He obtained a total of 48,897 votes. Amit Thackeray of MNS came third. He obtained only 33,062 votes.
Shock for Sada Saravankar
The biggest setback in this seat is for Sada Saravankar because he won this seat in 2014 and 2019 on the ticket of the undivided Shiv Sena. This was his chance to score a hat-trick, but he lost the election. When there was a split in the Shiv Sena, Sarvankar supported Eknath Shinde. Shinde also expressed confidence in him in this election but he lost the election.
It is worth noting here that Eknath Shinde had fielded his candidate from Mahim, but the BJP had promised to support Amit Thackeray. That means the BJP’s support was with Amit Thackeray. Still he could not win the elections.
What is Mahim’s electoral history?
The Mahim assembly seat has not been dominated by any leader. From 1962 until now, many great leaders have won elections here. Shivsena dominated this seat in the 1990s. Suresh Gambhir had won from here consecutively in 1990, 1995 and 1999. Even in 2004 Gambhir won.
But in 2009, Shiv Sena suffered a setback in this seat and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidate Nitin Sardesai won the elections. Shiv Sena returned in 2014 and won Sada Saravankar. Sada Saravankar won again in the 2019 elections.
