- Preparations completed to deal with any winter disaster in Mandi district
- Storing rations for five months in areas with heavy snowfall: deputy commissioner
(Mandi News) Today society-market. Mandi district administration is fully prepared to deal with any kind of disaster in the district during snowfall. In this backdrop, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority Apoorva Devgan held a meeting with district officials of all departments and directed them to complete their preparations before the snowfall.
He said that during winter, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in areas like Chauhar Valley, Seraj Valley, Shikari Devi, Kamrunag area, Rohanda, Pandar, Barot, Parashar, Thunag, Janjehli and Gadagusaini etc. in the district.
The district administration is fully alert to keep the lives of people in these areas peaceful and provide electricity, water and ration in rural areas as well as to meet all kinds of needs including transportation.
He instructed the officials that each department should appoint a nodal officer for disaster management during winter and share his mobile number with the District Disaster Management Authority.
He directed the concerned department officials to open the roads closed due to rain and snow during winter on priority and keep the electricity and drinking water system running smoothly.
He directed Public Works Department officials to identify places where there is a possibility of roads being closed due to snowfall and deploy necessary machinery and operators there in time.
At the meeting, it was reported that 82 fair price shops have been identified in areas with heavy snowfall, where rations have been stored from November to March. He also directed the health department to arrange all life-saving medicines in these areas.
He also said that during the snowfall alert, no official or employee of the affected area should leave their work area.
He said all concerned SDMs should continue to issue advisories to tourists and trekkers in snowy areas at their level, so that any untoward incident can be avoided during this period.
He also directed the SDM to make all necessary arrangements at its level for winter by holding a meeting with all officials of its working area along with telecom operators.
He said the District Disaster Authority is also providing wireless sets to all SDMs.
He said all departments should work in coordination and immediately report any untoward incident to the District Disaster Authority.
He also called on the population to immediately inform the District Disaster Management Operations Center at 01905-226201, 202, 203,204 or toll-free number 1077 in case of any type of disaster. The Disaster Management Center is operational 24 hours a day.
Additional District Magistrate Dr Madan Kumar conducted the proceedings of the meeting. District officials from all departments including all SDMs of the district participated in the meeting.
