The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice D Krishnakumar for the post of Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Justice Krishnakumar is currently serving as a judge of the Madras High Court. This recommendation was made on Monday in the collegium meeting chaired by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
Why is this appointment necessary?
The collegium said that this post will fall vacant after the retirement of the current Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul, on November 21. In such a situation, the appointment of Justice Krishnakumar has been recommended so that he can take charge of this position.

Justice Krishnakumar was appointed Judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016. He will retire on May 21, 2025. In his career he has gained extensive experience in civil, constitutional and service matters and is experienced in constitutional law. Furthermore, he belongs to a backward community and is the senior-most judge of the Madras High Court.
