Manipur violence: Supreme Court to probe whistleblower tape against CM Biren Singh

Supreme Court.

CM N Biren Singh’s woes may increase in the Manipur violence case. The Supreme Court will investigate the tape of the complaint against him. The court agreed to investigate audio recordings that allegedly point to CM Biren Singh’s role in the violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra have sought details from the petitioner about the source of the tape and the material to prove its authenticity.

This petition has been brought by Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust. Hearing this, the court said it will give the petitioner an opportunity to present material proving the authenticity of the tape. Regarding this, the petitioner’s lawyer says that the clip will be handed over. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, said the complainant had recorded CM Biren Singh’s conversation.

Biren Singh promoted extremism

The petitioner’s lawyer said that in the conversation he (Biren Singh) admitted that he promoted extremism. Not only this, he also protected those who looted weapons. Prashant Bhushan asked why the CM was allowing looting of arms and ammunition. How can the State investigate this matter?

This is not a simple matter

The petitioner’s lawyer said the matter was handed over to the Lamba Commission. The court is hearing the Manipur case. This matter is not a common matter. At the same time, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, raised objections to the petition. He said the petitioner’s intention is to keep the fire burning.

The petitioners should go to the High Court

He said the matter is under investigation. CM Biren Singh held talks with all Kuki MLAs to restore peace in the state. The complainants do not want peace to be established in the state. The petitioners should approach the High Court. At the end of the case hearing, he objected to the court’s decision.
