Desk : Maruti Suzuki has achieved another milestone by becoming the first Indian manufacturer to export 3 million cars abroad. The 30 lakh historic vehicle was part of a consignment of 1,053 units that left Pipavav port in Gujarat yesterday, which included models like Celerio, FrontX, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dezire and S-Presso.

Maruti Suzuki exports cross 30 lakh units Maruti Suzuki started exporting vehicles from India in 1986. The first major shipment of 500 cars was sent to Hungary in September 1987. The company reached the 1 millionth milestone in exports of vehicles in fiscal year 2012-13. To the next million in fiscal year 2020-21 in just under 9 years. The progression from 2 million to 3 million cumulative exports was achieved in just 3 years and 9 months, making it the fastest million for Maruti Suzuki.

Speaking on the export milestone, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The cumulative export milestone of 3 million reflects the excellence in Indian automobile manufacturing and is a brilliant example of brand India on the global stage. We thank the Government of India for enabling encouraging policies and trade agreements with certain markets that enhance export growth.

He further added, “In line with the Government of India’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative, Maruti Suzuki is committed to deep localization and export enhancement. Our exports from India have increased 3 times compared to 4 years ago. Driven by this global demand, Maruti Suzuki is committed to diversifying vehicle exports and increasing it to 7.5 lakh units by 2030-31.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker recorded the highest monthly exports in its history in October this year, with 33,168 units. Currently, the company holds a 40 percent market share of all exports in the passenger vehicle segment.

In the current fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki exported 181,444 units between April and October, a year-on-year growth of 17.4 per cent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. So far, the company exports 100 models to almost 17 countries. Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East are important export markets for the company. The Front, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire and S-Presso are the main export models of Maruti Suzuki.
