Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday praised MLAs of three parties for raising the issue of scrapping Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution during the first session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. “Party President Mehbooba Mufti appreciated the efforts of PDP MLAs at the party headquarters in Srinagar today,” the PDP said in a post on its official account on social media platform ‘X’ after a meeting chaired by Mehbooba.
The PDP president said, “These elections were to protect the identity and honor of Jammu and Kashmir. Our MLAs have raised the deep concern of the people over the unilateral removal of Articles 370 and 35A. The fight for our rights continues between the legislature and the public.
Apart from the party’s three MLAs, Waheed Para, Rafiq Naik and Mir Mohammad Faiyaz, senior leaders like Naeem Akhtar, Abdul Rehman Veeru, Ghulam Nabi Lone, Khurshid Alam, Basharat Bukhari, Asiya Nakash and Zahoor Mir attended the meeting. PDP legislative party leader Para told reporters after the meeting that the party’s MLAs would continue to remind the National Conference government of the promises made during the election campaign. The Center had repealed Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, on August 5, 2019.
