Aizawl: Mizoram’s main opposition party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for allegedly failing to stop the ongoing caste violence in Manipur. MNF General Secretary VL Krosehnehzova said on Thursday that the Center must take measures to end the crisis that has claimed more than 250 lives since May last year. He alleged that Biren Singh not only failed to resolve the crisis but also failed to protect the innocent. Therefore, we demand that Chief Minister Biren Singh resigns immediately.
The Multinational Force made serious allegations against Biren Singh
Kroszhanezova said the central government must take immediate and decisive steps to end the violence in Manipur once and for all. The general secretary of the MNF media cell claimed that Biren Singh’s inaction and abuse of power have worsened the situation, making his stay in the CM’s office “untenable and shameful”.
They claim 219 people have died so far in violence
According to the MNF leader, so far 219 Zo people have died due to ethnic violence and 41,425 people have been displaced, forced to seek refuge in neighboring states. He claimed that a large number of churches and villages have been destroyed in violence in Manipur. The MNF leader also called on all Zo ethnic tribes to unite and protect the lives and livelihoods of community members.
He urged both the government of Mizoram and the people of the state to continue their efforts to provide support and humanitarian assistance to the displaced people of Manipur and refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh. The MNF leader said the continued erosion of human rights and attacks on religious sites in the world’s largest democracy betray the fundamental values of justice and secularism.
