Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed the need to prepare a robust policy framework for the state’s logistics sector. He said transport infrastructure and traffic planning should be done for smooth delivery up to the last mile in the state. There should be a plan that supports warehousing and other terminal infrastructure in the state, as well as creating a robust and secure logistics regulatory ecosystem. In such a situation, an integrated state logistics plan of the state must be prepared.
In an important meeting held on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that it is a result of continuous planned efforts that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a successful state today by rising from 13th rank in the Government of India’s LEADS ranking. To boost these efforts, it is necessary to promote the logistics industry. It is necessary to attract investments in the logistics sector and ensure a convenient environment for setting up warehousing facilities in the state. It is necessary to create an institutional mechanism for effective administration of this sector. The Chief Minister said efforts would be made to identify economic hubs and aggregation points for agricultural produce in the state and address related logistical challenges, improve traffic linkages by promoting coordination of road, air, sea and railway, create storage capacity in the State. Planned efforts need to be made to increase it. When preparing the State Logistics Plan, we must keep in mind that there must be a minimum loss of property due to theft, arson, riots, etc. The ecosystem can be promoted to achieve minimum inspection and minimum disturbance in the movement of goods by road. He emphasized on adoption of technology to ensure safe movement and tracking of cargo and also said that skill development and training facilities related to logistics sector should be increased in the state. Pointing out the need to bridge the gap between the supply and demand of required trained drivers, the Chief Minister also directed to customize courses to impart industry-related skills.
Discussing the proposed state logistics plan, the Chief Minister said there is currently a shortage of designated parking spaces for trucks, leading to traffic jams. Due to heavy traffic, encroachment and construction, traffic jams occur. At the same time, there are obstacles such as no-entry zones and inadequate bridges at railway crossings, which affect the movement of goods. Not only this, drivers traveling long distances have experienced a lack of proper facilities such as rest areas and parking. The new plan should also ensure permanent solutions to these problems. The Chief Minister said that a Logistics Division should also be formed to formalize the State Logistics Plan. This division will periodically monitor the progress of the plan within the framework of the logistics plan.
