It was the year 1928, a strong young man entered the office of the top boss of the Bombay Film Company. There was a strict Pathan guard posted at the door; To deal with him, this person used his native Pashto language and entered after confusing the guard. Somehow this entry provided the person with work, but he got the job as an unpaid extra. This person was none other than Prithviraj Kapoor, who laid the foundation of the Kapoor family in Bollywood. Prithviraj Kapoor worked for 10 days and on the eleventh day he was roped in as the hero of the next film. Due to his charismatic personality, he won the lead role in the second week. This may surprise you, you may not even believe it, but it is true and also proof of his incredible attractiveness and self-confidence.
That’s how I got my first movie.
The filming of a new movie was about to begin but the hero was absent. The angry director took the heroine to the place where the extras were sitting and asked her to choose her main role from among them. He pointed directly towards the heroine. Thus began Prithviraj Kapoor’s remarkable journey as a great actor on stage, silver screen and in personal life and he became the father of the first family of the Hindi film industry. This family continues to thrive in its fourth generation. This family produced many legendary actors. However, Prithviraj is the only Indian actor to have appeared in two films starring three generations of a family. Her father Basheshwarnath Kapoor and sons Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were seen together in ‘Awara’. His son Raj Kapoor and grandson Randhir Kapoor were seen with him in ‘Kal Aaj Aur Kal’.
Spread magic in every setting.
Prithviraj Kapoor, hailing from a Punjabi Khatri family, was in government service for a long time. He was born in Lyallpur and educated in Peshawar, where he graduated from the famous Edwards College and studied law for a year, but then decided it was not for him and decided to pursue law. He arrived in Bombay in 1928 with money borrowed from his father’s sister and soon became a leading actor of the silent film era. In 1931, he also acted in the first Indian talking film, ‘Alam Ara’. His talent was also demonstrated in the theater. The theatrical acts ‘Pathan’ and ‘Shylock’ show their most powerful characters.
Be famous for the role of kings.
You must remember Sohrab Modi’s Sikandar. Prithvirad Kapoor played the role of a Greek in this film. He was perfect in this character. His skill earned him a status on par with Sohrab Modi, who played the role of King Porus. Only after this did he rise to fame in 1941. However, years later, Prithviraj himself played the role of Porus in ‘Sikander-e-Azam’. Although Prithviraj Kapoor is best known for his role as Emperor Akbar in the 1960 classic film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, he has also played the roles of many other kings, whether historical or mythological. He played the role of Bhagwaar Ram twice. Apart from this, he was also seen in the roles of King Dasaratha and Ravana. He also appeared in the roles of Arjun and Karna. Apart from King Vikramaditya and Harishchandra, he also brought to life 12th century characters Chauhan Namdhari, Rana Kumbh, Emperor Shahjahan and Raja Mansingh on screen.
Received these great honors
When his sons took up the reins of acting in the mid-1950s, Prithviraj Kapoor scaled back his film work. Considered one of the founding fathers of Hindi cinema, Kapoor received the Padma Bhushan Award in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1971. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from 1952 to 1960. Prithviraj Kapoor died of cancer in 1972. Now Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan continue his legacy.
