With the return of Donald Trump as president of the United States, global equations will change in the coming times. Trump has made his intentions clear even before taking the oath of office.
He has flatly said that as soon as he takes the reins of the country he is going to take big steps against China, Canada and Mexico. Now China has also reacted to this statement by Trump.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington has said that neither China nor the United States will win this trade war. Chinese embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said in a statement that regarding US tariffs on China, we believe that economic relations and trade cooperation between the two countries are based on mutual interests. But no one will win in this trade war.
Liu said that after the agreement reached last year between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, we had taken steps to tackle drug smuggling. We had also informed the US administration in this regard. But to say that China is deliberately supplying drugs like fentanyl to the United States is far from the truth.
Why is Trump angry at China?
Trump said he had spoken to the Chinese administration about the large amount of drugs being supplied to the United States from China, especially fentanyl, but to no avail. Representatives from China told me that they would impose the death penalty on drug traffickers if they were caught, but unfortunately China never followed through on this and drug shipments continued to come to the United States from China. These drugs are transported to the United States primarily through Mexico. We are going to impose an additional 10 percent tariff on China.
This decision by Trump may affect the North American supply chain and affect business here. Previously, China’s political advisor Zheng Yongnian had made a big statement about Trump’s new team. He had said that Trump’s team of Elon Musk and Indian-origin businessman Vivek Ramaswamy could be the biggest threat to China.
