Seoul: North Korea interrupted the flights of South Korean planes by altering the GPS. The South Korean military has made this very serious accusation against North Korea. According to South Korea, this is a cyber attack carried out by Kim Jong’s army. South Korea said a large number of flights and ship operations were affected when North Korea manipulated GPS signals from border areas for the second straight day on Saturday.
Tensions between the two Koreas have risen as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un flexes his nuclear and missile programs and engages in electronic and psychological warfare. North Korea recently launched thousands of balloons to drop trash and anti-South Korea propaganda leaflets over the neighboring country. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korean activities to disrupt GPS signals around the western border city of Kaesong and the nearby city of Haeju were detected on Friday and Saturday.
Dozens of planes were detained
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said these North Korean activities disrupted the operation of dozens of civilian aircraft and several ships. The South Korean military, while warning planes and ships near western border areas, did not explain how North Korea was jamming GPS signals or detail the extent of the jamming. “We urge North Korea to immediately end its provocative actions related to GPS manipulation,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. We strongly warn that you will be fully responsible for the consequences that may arise from this. (AP)
