Gwalior Municipal Corporation will now purchase diesel from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, because diesel is cheaper in Jhansi compared to MP. In this situation, the issue of purchasing diesel has now acquired political importance. BJP councilors who are part of the opposition raise questions over the mathematics of the Municipal Corporation’s savings. They allege that the Gwalior Municipal Corporation is receiving grants from the Madhya Pradesh government and is preparing to fill the treasury of Uttar Pradesh.
According to information, the Municipal Corporation has to purchase diesel worth millions of rupees every year to run its vehicles. Diesel and petrol are expensive due to high VAT and other taxes imposed in the state. Faced with such an inflation situation, the Municipal Corporation has prepared the mathematics of savings. To meet its diesel needs, the Municipal Corporation will purchase it from Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. The Municipal Corporation will get Jhansi diesel Rs 4 31 paise cheaper per litre. It has also been approved by the Municipal Corporation Council.
MP has been gobbled up, UP treasury to be filled: BJP councilor
BJP councilors have started protesting against this decision. He says the Municipal Corporation receives grants from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will cover the treasury. This is wrong and in such a situation, it can be said that the Gwalior Municipal Corporation made a hole in the plate from which it was eaten.
Congress city government MIC member Awadhesh Kaurav’s statement also came to light as opposition BJP councilors opposed this move. He says the Congress city government is not going to do this for the first time. In the past, during the Corona period, administrators also took this measure to reduce expenses.
Let us tell you why Gwalior Municipal Corporation calculated this saving.
- The Gwalior Municipal Corporation will spend Rs 26 crore on the use of diesel for vehicles in the financial year 2024-25.
- Indian Oil Corporation supplies diesel to the Municipal Corporation at the current price of Rs 91.80 paise per litre.
- The Municipal Corporation needs about 15 diesel tankers, that is, 12,000 liters of diesel every month.
- By purchasing it in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, it is estimated to save around Rs 87 lakh every month.
- Compared to Uttar Pradesh, there are higher taxes on petrol and diesel in Madhya Pradesh.
- In MP, VAT is 19%, additional VAT is Rs 1.50 per liter and duty is 1%.
- Apart from VAT of 17.08%, no other taxes are levied in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
- This is why diesel is available at Rs 87.49 per liter in Jhansi, compared to Rs 91.80 per liter in Gwalior, MP.
However, due to the mathematics of this saving of the Municipal Corporation, the corporation will benefit in thousands of rupees. At the same time, the state government will suffer tax losses worth thousands of rupees every month. In such a situation, it remains to be seen to what extent this diesel purchasing problem becomes more serious.
